Joe has been a constant source of support, offering guidance and championing social studies and the people who teach it. His passion and integrity are truly inspiring, as evidenced in his social media presence and co-writing book aimed to help teachers have difficult conversations in their classrooms. Joe is truly remarkable and makes sure everyone in the room has a seat at the table and feels empowered to make positive changes. Joe would be an excellent leader of any organization, and he has my full support in his candidacy for President of NCSS.

A former classroom teacher, state level coordinator, book author, and current director of programs for a national organization, Joe brings two decades of experience in teaching, curriculum development, and professional development. Joe is a passionate advocate for high-quality social studies and a strong supporter of NCSS's mission to support K-16 classroom educators. 

Joe Schmidt's dedication to the social studies discipline and his extensive experience in the field make him an outstanding candidate. I'm convinced that his passion, leadership, and vision will help move the organization forward, ultimately benefitting educators and students across the country.

goal was to give an earth-shattering testimonial about why he should be the next

President of NCSS. With more than 20 years’ experience in education, a former state

social studies specialist, and current senior manager with a curriculum company, I

believe I am knowledgeable enough to use a plethora of social studies and education

terminology to describe Joe. I could say that he is a man that understands the national

shifts in social studies education, including civic engagement and deep understanding

of the C3 Framework. Maybe discuss Joe’s experience with revising and implementing

state social studies standards, developing and leading professional learning, and

working effectively with other social studies leaders. Here is the thing. My written

statement for Joe may not be earth-shattering, but his work in the field of social studies

has been. One would be hard-pressed to find someone as qualified as Joe. Very few

have the experience, relationships, and knowledge of Joe Schmidt and this is why he

will make an excellent NCSS President.

In addition to his passion and knowledge, Joe is a natural leader. He has a proven track record of bringing people together, fostering collaboration, and driving positive change. Many times we have discussed topics that led to deeper appreciation for his perspective but offering me the same level of respect and understanding.
